NINE RED PRESENTS
NINE RED Presents is Luton’s longest-serving Community Interest Company — a socially engaged creative organisation working across art, therapy, poetry, performance and community transformation. Think Art, Think Therapy; Think NINE RED! We create projects, programmes and healing spaces that connect imagination with lived experience, and creativity with social purpose.
One organisation, many pathways
NINE RED Presents began as a collaboration between a DJ and a Poet producing Sound with Vision, then evolved into an interdisciplinary organisation working across theatre arts, multimedia performance, exhibitions, installations, workshops, visual art, digital creativity and community-rooted practice.
Creativity with social purpose
As a Community Interest Company, profits are reinvested into people, projects and communities. That means the work is not simply about making art, but about making change, widening access, nurturing dignity and building spaces where healing and imagination can meet.
A shared public mission
Art Un-Defined!, Art Medicine, Words Chose Me and the wider NINE RED ecology each speak in different ways, but all are connected by a commitment to transformation, wellbeing, cultural expression and community power.
Built from experience, not theory
NINE RED Presents was founded from lived reality as much as from artistic vision. The organisation has grown through direct work with communities, through creative responses to pain and possibility, and through long-term commitment to people whose voices are often excluded or overlooked.
That grounding matters. It means the work is practical as well as imaginative, and compassionate as well as ambitious — shaped not by distance, but by relationship, trust and participation.
“Think Art, Think Therapy; Think NINE RED!” is not a slogan layered on afterwards. It is the structure of the work itself — creative practice, healing practice and public purpose moving together.
NINE RED Presents ethosThree connected pathways
The work of NINE RED Presents moves across art, healing and public engagement. Each pathway stands in its own right, but together they form one coherent social and creative practice.
Art Un-Defined!
Art Un-Defined! transforms people, places and spaces through installations, exhibitions, digital art, visual storytelling, performance, creative commissions and participatory projects.
Art Medicine
Art Medicine opens pathways into wellbeing through creative arts therapies, integrative healing approaches, holistic support and culturally rooted health practice.
Public programmes
Community work runs through the organisation’s exhibitions, workshops, survivor-led practice, heritage activity, spoken word, youth engagement, festivals and long-form social programmes.
Years of practice
More than two decades of community-rooted work across Bedfordshire and beyond, with projects that continue to evolve rather than disappear.
CIC incorporation
The move into Community Interest Company status formalised a model already shaped by social purpose, accountability and reinvestment into communities.
Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
The organisation’s ethos of service, creativity and commitment to community was recognised in 2016 with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Shared purpose
Whether the work begins in art, therapy, poetry or public engagement, the purpose remains the same: transformation, dignity, expression and collective growth.
Survivor-led roots
Many strands of the work are designed with survivors and communities, not just for them, carrying “for us, by us” principles into practice, inspired by 1990s hip‑hop brand FUBU, whose name signalled clothing created by Black entrepreneurs for their own community.
Place-based commitment
The organisation’s heartland is Luton and Bedfordshire, with projects that honour local people while connecting to wider conversations and movements.

Think Art, Think Therapy; Think NINE RED!
This is the thread that holds the organisation together. It expresses a way of working in which creativity, healing, public purpose and community action are not separate departments, but connected parts of one living practice.
That is why the organisation can move naturally between exhibitions, survivor-led work, poetry, wellbeing, youth projects, heritage activity and public programmes while staying rooted in one clear identity.
